About THIS PROJECT

For Highlife Property Group's Craftsmanship Series, we spent time with Gold Coast artist Chris Riley, a painter and sculptor whose work runs hard in the opposite direction to everything beige. Chris builds worlds out of colour, bright, nostalgic, a bit playful, the kind of pieces that pull you back to a feeling before you can name it. His view is that so much around us is designed to offend no one and move no one, and his answer is to make work that's unmistakably felt. We filmed in his studio while he worked, chasing the way an idea becomes a colour and a colour becomes a whole scene. The series exists to put a face to the people whose art ends up living in Highlife's spaces. Chris is one of them, and time in his studio is a reminder of how much warmth a single, fearless choice of colour can carry into a room.
