For Highlife Property Group's Craftsmanship Series, we spent a day with painter Anthony Pieters in his Gold Coast studio. Anthony works in abstract landscape and figurative painting, and his work has ended up in some serious rooms, Capella Sydney, Canopy by Hilton, fit-outs where the art has to hold its own against the architecture. We wanted to show the part nobody sees: a single day in the studio, paint going on and being scraped back, the long pauses where he stands and looks before the next mark. There's no neat formula to it. You watch him chase something he can feel but can't fully name, and you start to understand why a finished canvas carries the weight it does. The series exists to credit the people behind the art that lives in Highlife's spaces. Anthony is one of them, and a day with him is a day spent watching instinct do its work.
